About Me

My photo
I am Luke Goddard, the son of Bruce and Kathy Goddard. My father is in the funeral home business and has published a book, entitled "View From a Hearse: Lighten Up." You can read him at www.viewfromahearse.blogspot.com. With this site, I plan on enjoying my passion one blog at a time. Ever since I was a child, I've been obsessed with the Atlanta Braves. As a kid, I would put on shows for my parents and their friends by impersonating each of the Braves' batting stance with a broom stick. My parents seemed to enjoy it. Plus, it was a way for me to get inside the mind of a Brave and be them for a moment. Now, as I've grown older, I still find myself totally absorbed in the game, especially the Braves ball club. I even find myself at times impersonating their stances with a broom stick as I watch their games. Call me a Braves nut... that's fine. It's an honor. I hope you enjoy the stories you read here. Go Braves.

Here's Something To Cheer About

I told you when I first started this blog that I would cover your Atlanta Braves. And that's what I plan to do.

What does a blogger do when there's nothing to talk about though? Actually, there is a ton to talk about, but frankly, I'm tired of being negative.

Finally, we have something to cheer about.

On their stomping ground, Joe Johnson led the Atlanta Hawks in defeating arguably the best team in the NBA-- the Boston Celtics last night. By winning this game, the Hawks find themselves sitting at a dead even 2-2 for the series against Boston.

Now, I'm not a NBA fan. As a matter of fact, I quit watching when MJ retired. It's just boring stuff. No defense. It's just a shooting/dunking contest for 48 long minutes.

Lately, there's been nothing but trash talk going on regarding Atlanta sports. On my way home from school yesterday afternoon, I did the usual by flipping the radio to 105.5 the Fan (the Bill Shanks Show). I got so sick of hearing him talk negatively about the Braves. I mean, I know it's hard to be excited about the Braves, but when is it gonna stop? When we start winning? Well, forget it. We have to get folks healthy first. Then, I had to listen to him spend another 30 minutes talking about how the Falcons were stupid in taking Matt Ryan in the NFL draft. I guess I didn't have to listen, but he kept me lingering because I figured he'd move on to a different subject. Perhaps a more encouraging subject.

Honestly, as I said my prayers last night, I caught myself asking God, "Please forgive me for being so negative all the time. It's just that these injuries with the Braves...wait, what am I saying?"

I'm sure God was like, "Luke, you kiddin' me?"

Laugh all you want. This Braves fan is upset. Concerned. Depressed. Whatever word you want to use there.

Regardless of my state of mind, there's a Braves game tonight and it should be an interesting one.

Glavine takes on Redding and the Nationals in Washington at 7:10pm on Sport South. You have to remember to be concerned with Glavine. He's pitching off the same mound that he strained his hamstring, which sent him to the DL for the first time in his career.

"The good thing is that I've been able to throw a little," Glavine said. "There is always going to be some concern for me that I'll be too strong or that my command will be off."

We hope you're not too rusty, Tommy. The Braves need a win!

Tonight:
Have your remote set to where you can switch back and forth from American Idol to the Braves game. Should be an interesting night of television.

Go David Cook!
